About Me
Ani Nishanian is an 8th grader at Rocky Run Middle School, recognized for Outstanding Academic Excellence by the President’s Education Awards Program in 2023. She founded 'We STEM the Future' to empower kids to pursue STEM careers. Ani has participated in many STEM events and competitions, earning the title of “National STEM Champion” by EXPLR. Committed to combating climate change and pollution, Ani uses her STEM knowledge to develop sustainable solutions and promote eco-friendly practices. She believes in the power of collective action and aims to inspire others to join her mission for a better future.
My Work
To tackle the environmental impact of synthetic plastics, I developed a biodegradable plastic using sugar and milk. By adjusting the type of milk and sugar amount, I was able to significantly enhance the plastic’s durability and quality, offering a promising and eco-friendly alternative to traditional plastics.
ColorSnap is an app that uses RGB identification to analyze colors in photos, converting the red, green, and blue values into clear color names for colorblind users, making it easier for them to understand and enjoy a more vibrant world. This app was inspired by my colorblind cousin, who struggled to identify the colorful world around him.

We STEM the Future
"We STEM the Future's mission is to empower and inspire the next generation of innovators by igniting a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) in young children. Through dynamic educational programs, dedicated mentorship, and steadfast advocacy, we are committed to building their confidence, sparking their curiosity, and ensuring their success. As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we are devoted to creating a brighter future where every child has the opportunity to explore, excel, and lead in STEM fields.
Ani Nishanian is an outstanding student and individual whom I had the privilege of teaching several years ago. She consistently excelled in every project she undertook, showcasing a passion for challenges and exceptional leadership skills. Ani's proficiency in mathematics led her to establish a tutoring club to assist fellow students who were struggling with the subject. She collaborated closely with teachers to identify learning objectives, develop engaging activities, and create comprehensive lesson plans for club members. Ani always prioritized the success and positive mindset of every student she worked with. That same year, she continued to push her limits in mathematics by earning numerous awards in Math Olympiad competitions.
During the same school year, Ani and her partner took part in a national competition sponsored by Jason Learning and ReMA. Their team achieved success by producing a PSA video highlighting the significance of recycling, which led to them winning a trip to the ReMA convention in Las Vegas to accept an award. Ani recently revisited the convention to participate in a youth leadership panel, where she shared her advocacy experience of promoting the use of recycled materials in roadways to lawmakers at the Capitol in Washington, DC.
On one of our visits to the Capitol, Ani demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and dedication to environmental causes by engaging with lawmakers on the significance of recycling EV batteries. Her ability to inspire others towards positive change, whether through one-on-one math tutoring or advocating for sustainable practices, makes her a formidable force for good in the world. Ani's leadership serves as a source of inspiration for others to strive towards a brighter future, establishing her as a true catalyst for positive change.
